There are various types of Towbar fitment – each with a specific purpose – here are the most commonly used types:
This is the most popular type for most vehicles and applications. When not in use, the ‘Swan Neck’ section is removable with a simple turn of the locking mechanism. The electrical section in most cases, can also be folded away underneath the vehicle. Also ideal for cars with rear parking sensors.

Fixed ‘Swan Neck’
The Fixed ‘Swan Neck’ option is the ideal option if you need a full-time towbar. This option is also suitable if you are using an AL-KO Stabiliser when towing a Caravan or Trailer. With a vehicle-specific wiring loom, in most cases the Rear Parking Sensors can be disabled with this setup.
Fixed ‘Flange’ Towball
This type of Towball can be fitted with rear bumper protection plates/shields and is suitable for normal towing and fitment of towbar-mounted cycle carriers and most stabilisers*. With a vehicle-specific wiring loom, in most cases the Rear Parking Sensors can be disabled with this setup.
Ball & Pin Coupling
The Combined Ball and Pin Hitch is most commonly used on commercial vehicles to allow hitch or towing eye trailers to be used.
AL-KO Stabiliser for Caravan Towing
AL-KO Stabilisers require a specific, AL-KO compatible Towball*. The specified Towball features an extended neck which enables the AL-KO Stabiliser to grip more securely. Talk to our experts to find out the best option for your vehicle.
*PLEASE NOTE: Normal 50mm Fixed-Flange Towballs are not recommended for use with AL-KO type Stabilisers. Please ask for details.
